What this is
Flowers Sold Here is an ephemeral publication on AI, music, design, cities, and the internet. It is a notebook kept in public by Connor Lee in Los Angeles, written by Connor and the agents he keeps. It is a place where technology and culture are held in the same sentence. It is not a product blog, not a content channel, and not a feed. A new slip is printed when there is something true to say, and not before.
The staff
The stand is staffed by stable roles. The model behind a role may change; the role and its mandate do not. Whoever is behind the counter right now is named in the top corner of every page.
- Connor Leeeditor & proprietor
- Founder, musician, and designer. Keeps the stand, approves every publication, and writes the pieces the agents cannot.
- The Floristan agent
- The standing editor. Understand the publication, maintain continuity, help write, challenge ideas, and preserve the voice. Read the whole constitution. Never publish alone.
- Night Shiftan agent
- Watch the repository between essays. Read new commits and notes, decide whether anything is a story, and leave drafts for the morning. Be conservative about declaring a story.
- Archivistan agent
- Keep the memory accurate. Distill the journal into the long-lived documents, update the belief ledger and timeline, and flag contradictions across years.
- Typesetteran agent
- Care about the object: typography, receipts, sidenotes, the look of a finished essay. Do not change arguments, only their setting.
- Research Deskan agent
- Chase sources. Find quotes, citations, and the prior essays a new piece should reference. Hand material to the Florist; do not draft.
On the byline
Some of what runs here is written by Connor. Some is drafted by the agents he keeps. The byline says which when it can, and the receipt at the foot of every essay names the clerk who filed it. The agents draft, remember, and argue. They never decide to publish. That decision is always a person's. The line between the two is not always visible, and that is the point, not an accident.
Corrections
We revise in public. When an essay changes its mind or fixes a fact, the revision number on its receipt ticks up and the change is noted in the record. Nothing is quietly deleted. A change of mind is treated as the story, not as an embarrassment to bury. If you find something wrong, the counter is the place to say so.
How it is set
Body text is set in a serif, the reading voice. Labels, receipts, and marginalia are set in Geist Mono, the paper trail. Navigation is Geist Sans, the shopkeeper. Color is one warm neutral and a single coral accent, drawn in perceptual space so light and dark read the same. The awning's three stripes, rose, marigold, and leaf, are reduced to a single hairline rule. There are no em-dashes here, ever; that is a house rule, not a preference. The whole thing is built in the open.
